Title: Child and Family Therapist
Summary: This position will provide child and family therapy to Safe Harbor clients, helping them navigate emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges related to domestic abuse. The therapist will use a variety of therapeutic techniques to improve family dynamics, enhance communication, and promote healthy development in children. The therapist may also facilitate support groups as needed. This therapist will be based primarily in Greenville County but may also assist in Anderson County or Oconee County, as needed. This is a full time, hourly, non exempt position eligible for full benefits.
Reports To: Director of Community Clinical Services
Job Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the unique needs of each client.
Develop individualized care plans that address trauma-related symptoms, behaviors, and long-term goals.
Utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques and trauma-focused interventions with children and families, helping them address the emotional and psychological effects of trauma. Conduct both individual and family sessions to meet the diverse needs of clients.
Offer immediate crisis intervention and support to clients experiencing emotional distress, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Educate children and families about the impact of trauma on their mental health and empower them with coping strategies and skills to manage their symptoms.
Make appropriate referrals to other services such as legal assistance, support groups, and community resources as needed.
Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting progress, treatment plans, and interventions in compliance with agency policies and legal requirements.
Collaborate with other members of the agency, including case managers, advocates, and medical personnel, to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to client care.
Participate in Safe Harbor staff meetings, team meetings, trainings, and continuing education.
Enthusiastically support and model the mission and vision of Safe Harbor to peers, clients, and the community.
Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field.
- Current licensure as a mental health therapist (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), Licensed Master Level Social Worker (LMSW) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LISW-CP), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-A), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of South Carolina. Or actively pursuing licensure within 60 days of hire.
- Experience with providing child and family therapy is preferred.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of trauma and domestic abuse is preferable.
- Ability to relate to others in an empathetic, non-judgmental, and supportive manner.
- Fluent written and verbal bilingual language skills (Spanish and English) are preferred but not required. Consideration for additional compensation for bilingual skillset.
- Possess insight and self-awareness to be confident in the role, with knowledge of personal capabilities and limitations.
- Must work well in a team setting and be able to utilize other direct service staff to gain perspective and assistance with duties of the job.
- Possession of a valid SC Driver’s License and/or reliable transportation for occasional travel.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel and willingness to learn client database.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening hours.
