Job Summary
Responsible for the fair and accurate disposition of homeowner claims by determining coverage, applying policy terms and conditions, determining damages, and negotiating settlements
Duties
- Screens new losses according to projected cost of the loss, the complexity of the claim, and other predetermined criteria to determine if the claim will be handled over the telephone or assigned to an independent adjuster
- Investigates and settles claims
- for claims handled over the telephone:
- sets up claims
- determines the likely cause of loss and damages
- monitors the submission of supporting claim information from vendors, experts, and attorneys
- reviews the policy to determine coverage and issues denials when appropriate
- negotiates settlement of the claim
- issues claim settlement checks
- negotiates and settles adverse subrogation
- coordinates disposal of salvage
- for claims handled by independent adjusters:
- sets up claims and makes assignments to independent adjusters
- reviews independent adjusters reports and estimates for accuracy
- monitors the use of vendors, experts, and attorneys
- issues denials when appropriate
- issues claim settlement checks
- negotiates and settles adverse subrogation
- coordinates disposal of salvage
- Maintains current diary on all claims
- Performs other activities as directed
Qualifications
- College degree or commensurate insurance experience required
- 1 years of insurance experience required
- Experience using an automated claims system required
