Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is hiring for the full-time position of Front of House Associate in Pearson’s Café!
The Front of House Associate supports Pearson’s Café by adhering to the highest level of quality, customer service and cleanliness throughout the café, and assisting with catered events scheduled at various venues on campus.
- Delivering strong customer service and adhere to Pearson’s philosophy, culture and commitment to quality food, products and exemplary service;
- Representing the College in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner in all customer, client, student and employee interactions;
- Being attentive to details with the customer and client perspective in mind;
- Ensuring that the various serveries are prepared 15 minutes prior to each meal period to allow time to review and make adjustments if necessary;
- Following the proper product fill procedure for optimal appearance;
- Ensuring the dining room is clean, including the tables and floors, and is welcoming to students, employees, and guests, and that all service areas are kept clean to support a positive experience;
- Supporting the meal service by using time management skills to ensure utensils, plates, glasses, etc, are plentiful for guests without sacrificing cleanliness;
- Supporting the meal service by keeping deli items and desserts stocked;
- Ensuring that operating procedures are followed and executed appropriately and timely (including after peak rush times) by following the checklists;
- Adhering to cash policies and procedures; which includes reconciling cash when necessary;
- Adhering to proper uniform standards (appearance on the job);
- Reporting any safety hazard, service issue or guest complaint to the Dining Room Manager.
Assist with catered events scheduled at various venues on campus by:
- Working collaboratively with the Agritourism Events staff to ensure the highest level of quality and service throughout the event;
- Ensuring events are properly staged 15 minutes prior to start and include proper serving items (i.e tongs, salt and pepper, and smallwares);
- Listening to special requests and filling the request as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent is required
- Minimum two years’ experience in related field or position
- ServSafe certified equivalent certificate in proper sanitation procedures and safe food handling, must provide valid certification with 120 days
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Possess general hospitality knowledge and interest in sustainability and sustainable food practices
- Ability to interact with all levels of guests, college students, faculty, staff and senior management
- Promotes and practices the values of the College and the Sisters of Mercy
- Must demonstrate teamwork skills and have a willingness to help others
- Possess a positive attitude to foster a cohesive working environment
- Must be able to use a POS System (cash register) and troubleshoot they system should the need arise
- Ability to work on their feet for extended periods of time
- A professional presence is required at all times
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple requests in a fast pace environment
- Possess a keen eye for detail and consistency
- Demonstrated ability to provide high levels of customer satisfaction through anticipation of needs, effective problem solving, and overall positive attitude
- Detail oriented, to include impeccable cleanliness of work area
- Demonstrated organization and time management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize tasks
- Ability to be trained to safely use and operate general kitchen equipment
- Having a passion for food and customer service
- Knowledge of food service including formal and informal catering events
- Ability to read and comprehend elaborate instructions, correspondence, and memos written
- General knowledge of Google Platform and Microsoft Office
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
- Tolerates work related stress effectively and maintains self-control/professionalism
