Quality and Risk Management Coordinator

The Quality and Risk Management Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, revising, evaluating, and directing the overall Quality Management and Risk Management programs in accordance with current state and federal rules and regulations to ensure the highest degree of quality care, safety, and confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Knowledge and expertise of quality management and performance improvement methods, tools, and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization. Demonstrates leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to concisely present data to leaders, clinicians, and staff at all levels of the organization. Positive attitude and demonstrates behavior consistent with the core values of the organization. Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant immediate action and be accountable for those decisions. Knowledge of effective self-management practices and ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritize time allocation. Must be able to review patient records and provide case summaries and maintain the confidentiality of the peer review process. Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis and the ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve the problems in the best interest of the organization. Supports collaboration and teamwork.

Graduate of an Approved School of nursing. Minimum of (3) years clinical experience in an acute care setting. Supervisory/management experience preferred.

Unencumbered RN license with the NDBON and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. ACLS and BLS certification.
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), or Healthcare Quality and Management Certification (HCQM), or Certificate of Professional Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety (CPQPS) preferred or willingness to obtain .


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, ROLES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, maintain, revise, and evaluate the quality management and risk management programs and their policies and procedures, which includes planning, organizing, implementing, operating, and monitoring all the elements of the programs and ensuring that the facility’s interdisciplinary team is involved.
  • Assist all departments with quality improvement and safety issues to identify, correct, and evaluate problems as needed.
  • Submit quarterly and annual reports to administration and medical staff. Prepares and completes Annual Program report.
  • Serve as chairperson of the quality committee and policy and procedure review committee. Participate in other committees related to quality, safety, emergency preparedness, and improving care delivery (including QAPI, Safety, Falls, Emergency Preparedness, LEPC, and others as required).
  • Proactively participates in performance improvement teams to support key initiatives, including but not limited to, activities focused on clinical quality improvement, patient safety and risk reduction, patient experience, efficiency, and medical staff improvement (e.g. Peer Review, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, PFAC, etc.).
  • Oversees regulatory readiness and survey preparation activities to ensure facility compliance with CMS conditions of participation. Maintains current knowledge of accreditation and licensing requirements and must be a resource to staff and managers on these regulations in order to improve management of outcomes and ensure overall compliance.
  • Track annual review of policy and procedure manuals by all department managers, medical staff, and the governing board.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Safety Officer on safety program, Workers’ Compensation program, incident/investigation reports, and analysis. Collaborates with Safety Officer to maintain safety program’s policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the Clarity reporting system. Investigates quality of care issues, patient complaints, compliance with state and federal rules and regulations, AMA trends, and EMTALA regulations. Takes appropriate action with follow-up as necessary.
  • Performs routine walkabouts of the facility and grounds to identify existing safety hazards, code violations, and other physical conditions that may represent a threat to the safety of patients, residents, employees, and visitors.
  • Assist with investigations of employee complaints concerning possible safety problems.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of educational safety programs for all employees.
  • Assist with work-related incident reports, claims, and related expenses.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining employee claim files and files related to OSHA requirements.
  • Assist department managers with quality of care issues.
  • Coordinate and conduct chart reviews on all patients and medical staff services peer chart review as directed.
  • Coordinate communications among various departments and committees to enhance problem resolution, facilitate corrective action, and prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the organizations and stay current with any changes in order to update/modify current practices to maintain compliance, collaborate with medical staff, administrator, and DON, and communicate changes to staff, providing for training as needed.
  • Develop an annual all-staff in-services calendar to include mandatory in-services that improve the quality of care.
  • Assist in the coordination, development, and administration of competency assessments to ensure competency of staff under the direction of the DON.
  • Attend and participate in orientation, training, mandatory education, in-services, staff meetings, and education courses as instructed to further improve knowledge and skills.
  • Know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules.
  • Assists with trauma certification, stroke certification, and infection prevention assessment as required.
  • Promote teamwork; encourage others to work to the best of their ability; assist with training of new co-workers, if needed.

OTHER DUTIES

  • May need to assist with operations in the nursing department during busy periods or as directed by DON.
