The Opportunity
Sambatek is looking for a highly motivated self-starter to join our team as a Construction Inspector/Field Technician. In this role, you will be working on Municipal, County, and MnDOT construction management projects in the Twin Cities area. This position is primary based in the field with some local travel. This is an integral part of the Construction Management team and will work under the guidance of the Project Manager/Engineer.
The qualified candidate will:
- Work with the contractor and other stakeholders to ensure and verify compliance with the plans, specifications, and standards
- Perform field observations/inspections; perform material testing and sampling as needed
- Support verification and ensure compliance to project plans, specifications, and standards by:
- Preparing daily reports, gathering quantities, and documenting test results
- Preparing pay estimates and producing project documentation for private, municipal, county, MnDOT and federal projects
- Complete documentation which may include: daily diaries, quantity calculations and backup documentation, letters, memos, and spreadsheets
- Attend weekly progress meetings and other meetings as needed
- Communicate directly, both verbally and written, with construction contractors and engineers regarding conformance or non-conformance to standards, plans, specifications, and codes
Qualifications
- 1-4 years of construction inspection or related experience required (4 years of experience preferred)
- Associates or Bachelor's degree related to civil engineering construction preferred, not required
- Material testing experience
- Current MnDOT technical certifications preferred (qualified candidates will be asked to provide proof of certification and/or be willing to obtain certifications)
- Good technical, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Bluebeam preferred
- Extensive use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and construction management databases/tracking software preferred
- Survey/GPS/Trimble TSC7 Rover experience preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
- Ability to carry equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons of weather
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
