NOTE: Individuals recommended for hire in an Instructional Assistant position or any other position
requiring State Board for Educator Certification SBEC certification will be required to submit appropriate
application/s and fees as determined by SBEC to obtain certification.
Position Summary
Plan and implement all aspects of an educationally enriched childcare program that is developmentally,
individually, and culturally appropriate for enrolled infant and toddlers.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement monthly lesson plans, including toilet training as needed.
2. Always supervise children, adjusting appropriately for different ages and abilities of children.
3. Prepare instructional materials, paperwork, and classroom displays as needed.
4. Develop children’s portfolios and record development growth.
5. Conduct parent/teacher conferences each semester as needed.
6. Report suspected child abuse, neglect, and exploitation to Child Protective Services and center director
within the required timeline.
7. Complete licensing documents as needed (accident reports, medication logs, etc.).
8. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and playground environment.
9. Sanitize classroom and outside environment daily.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected
for this position.
Minimum Requirements
- Must have one of the following educational requirements:
o Associates degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
o A minimum of forty-eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university.
o High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional
accrediting agency and completion of the paraeducator training course provided by Stedi.org with a
passing score of 70% or higher or Treasuring Our Paraprofessionals certificate through Region XX (course
fees are the responsibility of the applicant)
- Eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification.
- 2 years’ experience in an accredited childcare center or 24 hours of pre-service training.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must have Pediatric First Aid training.
- Must be Pediatric CPR certified.
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome Child Care Regulation background check.
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrate competency, good judgement, and self-control with infants and toddlers when performing
- Keep informed of and comply with minimum standards for childcare centers, state, district, and school
- Knowledge of Texas Rising Star.
- Attend a minimum of 30 annual training hours, current First Aid/CPR/Infant CPR and SIDS training.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team for the position assigned.
- Demonstrated ability to follow an established work schedule that includes instructional assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write and communicate in English.
Working Conditions
