OPTION 1: Six (6) months experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in an acute care hospital. Experience must have been obtained with the past two (2) years.
OPTION 2: Provisional Certification* through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) in any one of the following:
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA)
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
- Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
- Only accepted in conjunction with the completion of a Sterile Processing Technician course from an accredited agency.
*NOTE: Provisional Certification means you have successfully passed the certification examination and are now in process of obtaining the required 400 hours of hands-on experience required for full certification.
