The Operations and Maintenance Technician 4 will:
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, motor graders, and tractors to manage canals, levees, roadways, and Authority properties.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Utilize SCADA systems to monitor and adjust operations to meet raw water system demands.
- Support field construction activities and emergency response operations.
- Apply herbicides to manage vegetation along canal systems.
- Train and mentor team members to achieve department goals and uphold safety standards.
This role is vital in ensuring the reliable operation of SJRA's infrastructure and directly supports the community's water resource needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy and small equipment (e.g., backhoes, chainsaws, vegetation sprayers) safely and effectively.
- Monitor and maintain water levels using SCADA systems.
- Document maintenance activities using the Enterprise Asset Management System (EAM).
- Conduct welding, calibration, and repair tasks to maintain infrastructure integrity.
- Assist in construction activities like ditch digging and equipment hoisting.
- Respond to emergencies, including extreme weather events, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
What We’re Looking For
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Experience:
- 7 years of experience in heavy civil/site construction, road or levee building, or similar tasks.
Certifications:
- Required: Valid Texas Driver’s License with insurable driving record.
- Preferred: CDL certification and Aquatic Herbicide License.
Skills:
- Proficiency in operating motorized heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in team settings.
