Position Description
Responsible for the operation of all types of light and numerous types of heavy equipment in conjunction with the operation, maintenance and construction of Santee Cooper's generation stations, transmission system, dams, dikes, navigation system and other properties utilizing a variety of skilled tasks.
Equipment includes hydraulic and lattice boom cranes up to seventy five tons.
Individual must be knowledgeable of standard construction concepts, practices, herbicide application and procedures for a variety of site conditions.
This position must be available to work out of town on a continuous basis and be on 24 hours on-call status.
Essential Job Tasks:
Exhibits proficiency in the operation of most types of hydraulic and friction cranes, light and heavy equipment such as large excavators, dozers, tug boats, farm tractors, dump trucks, skid steers, standard and extended reach forklifts, backhoes and loaders. Proficient equipment operation shall support maintenance activities and new construction projects such as various pile driving operations, dock building, herbicide application using computer injection system, and hydro seeding.
Operates tug boats pushing multiple barges within the navigable waters of South Carolina including the intracoastal waterway and bordering rivers.
May lead and direct the work of others in the absence of supervision. Relies heavily upon judgment and experience to plan and accomplish construction goals.
Promote safety and instructs other junior equipment operators in general maintenance and equipment operation.
Perform general metal fabrication and welding.
Apply various herbicides throughout the Santee Cooper service area for selective, ground sterilization, and growth retention control of vegetation.

Equipment Operator III
High School Diploma/GED 5 years experience required.
Light equipment, medium duty equipment, an unrestricted (except P) Class A Commercial Driver's license with appropriate endorsements required.
Must have competent knowledge of safe rigging practices.
May require Non-Commercial Pesticide License with appropriate endorsements.
