Job Summary
The Grant Accountant provides primary accounting functions for all grant monitoring, administration, compliance, and financial reporting of awarded grants through their final closing. The position reviews check requests, travel authorizations, procurement requests, and other requests for externally funded grants and/or contracts following applicable policies and procedures. The grant accountant will educate principal investigators concerning compliance issues and assist them in managing the sponsored funds in accordance with BOR, state, and federal regulations. This position will also be responsible for invoicing/reporting to the sponsoring agency, reconciling accounting records, tracking accounts receivable and preparing management reports. The incumbent may be required to perform job-related duties other than those specifically delineated in this description.
Responsibilities
- Set up new grant award portfolio
- Monitor grant accounts to determine that expenditures are in compliance with agency requirements and terms of the award.
- Implement procedures to communicate, educate, and ensure compliance with college policies and applicable grant regulations.
- Reconciles grants and monitors expenditures on a monthly basis and reports to grant PIs and The Office of Sponsored Research
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for grantors, stakeholders, and internal management
- Invoice funding agencies for reimbursable expenses
- Collaborates with faculty/PIs for review of grant related purchases, cost sharing,
- Reviewing and authorizing transfers (expenditure and effort) for sponsored accounts
- Verify that indirect cost are calculated correctly on accounts
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations related to grant finances
- Perform final award closeout and other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
- Two (2) year related work experience in grant accounting or financial management
- Understanding of general accounting principles and practices
- Familiarity with grant regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education preferred
- Three (3) years of experience working with sponsored programs accounting
- Experience with grant and contract policies of Federal, state, and private sponsors
- Governmental/Higher Education Preferred
- Experience with electronic grants management system
Proposed Salary
The proposed salary range is $52,000 - $55,000.00 annually.

Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
