Platform Engineer
Schneider Electric has an opportunity for a Platform Engineer in our Energy and Sustainability Services group. The preferred location is Louisville, Kentucky
As part of a team of talented architects and developers, the Sustainability Platform Engineer while play a critical role in development, deployment and maintenance of cloud-based applications and infrastructure within the Microsoft Azure environment. This role requires a deep understanding of Kubernetes, Azure services, DevOps principles, and automation tools to streamline development processes and ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of cloud solutions.
Schneider Electric's Sustainability Architecture Group initiatives involve leveraging the latest technologies to build innovative and sustainable solutions. They use Azure services such as IoT, AI, and machine learning to develop solutions that enable customers to optimize their energy usage, reduce their carbon footprint, and improve operational efficiency. The role of a Platform Engineer is crucial in enabling the Energy and Sustainability Services group to efficiently develop and maintain cloud solutions on the Sustainability platform, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability while optimizing resource utilization and streamlining development processes. The Sustainability platform is housed in Microsoft Azure and consists of both Azure services and Kubernetes infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Design and Architect Platform Services and Solutions to host modern applications and architectures supporting our Sustainability efforts.
- Work on a talented team of experienced architects and developers building SaaS based energy and sustainability solutions for our business clients and customers.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and develop software solutions that address sustainability challenges automation, DevOps, and Platform Challenges.
- Writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
- Optimize Azure resource utilization to control costs while maintaining performance and scalability.
- Implement security best practices and compliance standards in Azure solutions.
- Automate creation of Azure resources utilizing Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform or ARM.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for deploying applications and services on Azure and Kubernetes.
- Write scripts and automation tools using Python or another scripting languages to manage and maintain Azure and Kubernetes resources.
- Implement automation for routine tasks, scaling, and monitoring.
- Set up monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address issues.
- Participating in code reviews and ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Collect and analyze logs and metrics to ensure the performance and availability of Kubernetes and Azure resources.
- Monitor and manage resource consumption and billing.
- Keeping up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Relevant certifications, such as Kubernetes Certified Application Developer, Kubernetes Certified Administrator, Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or Azure Administrator Associate, are a plus.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure services, Azure DevOps, and related tools.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) and related tools (e.g., ARM templates, Terraform).
- Familiarity with networking principles such as TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, encryption, etc.
- Understanding of network and security principles in Azure.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a team.
