Scientific Drilling is looking for a skilled Electronic Technician to join our Houston Technology Center in Houston, Texas. As an Electronic Technician, you will be responsible for Repair and maintain Rotary Steerable System (RSS) tools run by Scientific Drilling (referred to as HALO Product Line). Prepare tools for field service. Build and repair electronic subassemblies per IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Modify and build assembly fixtures and tools.
- Disassemble, clean, and inspect RSS tool components.
- Identify, log and replace non-conforming tool components.
- Assemble, test and trouble shoot RSS tools.
- Fill out paperwork such as check lists, maintenance records and inventory sheets.
- Support new developments and tool testing.
- Crimp, stake, screw, bolt, weld, solder, epoxy, press fit and/or performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
- Must be able to complete and pass IPC/WHMA-A-620 course and have the ability to maintain certification.
- Tests electronic equipment using a written procedure.
- Uses multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment to measure voltages and waveforms.
- Troubleshoots/test failures to component level.
- Required to write failure reports.
- May be asked to write test procedures.
- Provide guidance and mentor other Electronic Technicians and Test Technicians.
- Responsible for the electronic equipment and tools in his or her work area.
- Identifies common failures based on troubleshooting.
- Manages workstation and practices good housekeeping techniques.
- May be required to work overtime.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient at soldering per IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for a class 3 product. With current IPC certification preferred.
- Previous extensive experience working on complex electrical/mechanical assemblies per IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for a class 3 product.
- Knowledgeable of ESD protection equipment and practices.
- Previous work experience in oil field tool maintenance
- Must understand the function of typical & rudimentary electronic testing and repair equipment.
- Must understand electronic concepts and be able to apply those concepts to identify failed components.
- Must be able to read and understand electronic schematics with limited guidance.
- Must know how to use a computer, a keyboard, and a mouse.
- The ability to use a word processor and a spreadsheet is preferred.
- Proficient in THT, SMT and fine pitch soldering.
- Ability to perform delicate and detailed assembly work while using hand tools and/or microscope, must possess steady manual dexterity.
Education, Experience, Certification and Training:
- Current IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experienced in using mechanical tools and equipment.
- Experienced in reading technical drawings and schematics.
- Capable to identify and solve problems.
- Able to communicate effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally.
- Basic knowledge in MS Office Software (Excel, Word).
- Working knowledge of SAP to search inventory, create purchasing requisitions and affect approvals as required.
Work Environment, Physical Job Requirements and PPE:
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 45 lbs., perceive depth and operate a motor vehicle.
- Conditions may include working inside and/or outside. May work around machines with moving parts and moving objects. Working near radiant and electrical energy. Working closely with others or working alone. Working extended or irregular hours and travelling by all possible modes of transportation.
- Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone and vehicles. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, coveralls, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs.
