About the Role: The Community Inclusion DSP is responsible for planning, organizing, attending, and evaluating community and recreational programs and special events for participants in the Supported Living Program. This role involves managing registrations, payments, and maintaining data. The DSP will lead a variety of activities both onsite and offsite, including Search for Adventure vacations, camp trips, and personalized activity requests. Additionally, the DSP will assist participants with daily living activities, such as medication administration, food preparation, and personal care, as needed.

This position reports to the Community Inclusion Coordinator.

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 2 PM - 10 PM (with flexibility based on program needs)

Salary: $20.75/HR

Responsibilities:

Participant Interaction:

  • Demonstrate kindness, courtesy, flexibility, responsiveness, and consistency in meeting participant needs,
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate levels of satisfaction of community and recreational programs and events.
  • Complete program registration and payment, record keeping, data entry, and filing of program documentation,
  • Lead indoor and outdoor activities, and plan and facilitate field trips special events.
  • Assist participants with activities of daily living in the areas of medication administration, toileting, eating, grooming, bathing/showering, dressing, etc.
  • Assist participants with medication administration and maintain documentation in accordance with DHS Rule 116.
  • Assist participants with planning and participating in activities of their choosing in the community, including transporting them to community activities,
  • Actively engage participants with meaningful activities,
  • Demonstrate knowledge of each participant’s Personal Plan, Implementation Strategy and outcomes, Risk Assessment, Behavior Plan, diet orders, and other clinical information,
  • Assist participants with working through strategies noted in their behavior plan at all times, including times of crisis,
  • Demonstrate daily efforts to assist participants with learning skills needed for independence,
  • Maintain direct and continuous supervision of participants at the program site and on outings to ensure their safety and well-being at all times,
  • Complete other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Cleanliness and Order

  • Maintain offsite and onsite care of the physical environment, grounds, and vehicles according to Search standards for cleanliness and order,
  • Follow cleaning schedules to ensure the therapeutic environment is maintained to Search’s high standards,
  • Demonstrate knowledge and consistent usage of the proper cleaning products and materials for assigned onsite cleaning tasks,
  • Complete and maintain an inventory of recreational equipment, retail goods, and other supplies used by the department,
  • Demonstrate respect for program and community materials and furnishings.

Administrative/Professional

  • Support the Mission Statement and agency values of Search,
  • Present yourself in a professional manner as a representative of Search to family members, guardians, community members, and representatives from affiliated agencies,
  • Maintain compliance with personnel policies as stated in the employee handbook,
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Corporate Compliance policy including the employee work rules and state/federal regulations related to services provided by Search,
  • Maintain daily documentation and recordkeeping for participant progress on goals established in their Implementation Strategy/Behavior Plan/etc., when required,
  • Complete incident reports according to policy,
  • Follow vehicle safety procedures including completing vehicle maintenance reports as requested,
  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiencies,
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings as scheduled,
  • Complete other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least six months of DSP experience,
  • Basic computer skills,
  • US High School diploma or equivalent,
  • Ability to pass the S-TOFHLA,
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 44 lbs., and perform basic physical moves such as kneeling, reaching, crouching, bending, and twisting,
  • Possess and maintain a driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between work sites,
  • Ability to meet and maintain PACE certification requirements,
  • Successful completion of the Direct Support Professional Training, CPR and First Aid Training, Medication Certification Training, and De-escalation Training courses, and the ability to maintain certifications on an ongoing basis.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 1 year of Direct Support Professional, Recreation Assistant, or Recreation Therapist experience,
  • Familiarity with applicable regulations including DHS Rules, and CQL standards.
