What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: Fight Hunger! Food Distribution at YMCA (201 W. Orange) - South San Francisco position at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley?
Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone. We rely upon the energy and commitment of the local community to fight hunger. See more about our efforts at www.shfb.org.

Food distribution is a hands-on volunteer activity. Activities could include assisting with room set up, unloading and moving food from pallets to the distribution center; sorting and distributing food; and clean up. This is a great chance for volunteers to interface with our clients. This volunteer activity does require some heavy lifting (a minimum of 25lbs.) and regular movement.
We are a full out of the box Walkup Farmers Market, which will provide an elevated experience for both Volunteers and Clients. We welcome you to become part of the team setting the foundation for ongoing community improvements and connection by considering signing up as a recurring volunteer at this site.
The volunteer must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, maintain strict confidentiality of all member and volunteer information.
Additional information for this shift See Frances when you arrive. She is the site leader. This is a 1x/month walkup only distribution in Boys & Girls Parking lot next to Memorial Park. You may be asked to assist with loading, restocking, registration and line control. Some items are heavy (23/25lbs) so you there will be some lifting and you will be on your feet for the entire shift.
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by VolunteerMatch, in partnership with LinkedIn for Good.
