Internship - Alternative Investments

Security Benefit is searching for a student with experience to join our Alternative Investments team. This position will work out of our office in Des Moines, Iowa. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.   Who Are We? Through a broad advisor network and its nationally recognized money managers, Security Benefit provides mutual funds, annuities, and retirement programs.   What Does the Job Look Like? The team’s responsibilities will be focused on managing the alternatives portfolio of Security Benefit. The portfolio includes fund and direct holdings in private and private equity, venture capital, credit, real estate, and aircraft. Portfolio Management: Perform core Alternative Investments Portfolio Management functions, including obtaining capital account statements from fund administrators or General Partner, obtaining K-1’s and other required tax documentation, and ensuring capital calls and distributions are processed efficiently and effectively. Reporting:  Establish, improve, and consistently deliver ad hoc and periodic reporting on Private Equity investments. Leverage technology to generate value-add reporting tailored to suit a variety of audiences. Provide in an organized, efficient and consistent manner for regular and ad-hoc reports and supporting data. Pricing:  Maintain pricing models on Private Equity and Alternative Investments portfolio using market consistent measures and utilizing them on a monthly basis to price certain investments. Audit/Finance:  Partner with and respond to internal and external audit requests as well as other internal finance requests/processes relating to Private Equity and Alternative Investments such as OTTI analysis. Legal Documentation:  Coordinate with legal team(s) ensuring appropriate legal documentation is acquired to support Private Equity and Alternative Investments. Financial Analysis:  Conduct financial analysis and overall due diligence on potential and existing Private Equity and Alternative Investments to understand business performance, operating trends, operating and financial forecasts, industry dynamics and assessing the overall risk of an individual potential Alternative Investments. Operations Analysis:  Ensure Security Master File (“SMF”) is accurate for each Private Equity and Alternative Investments including resultant asset analytics, investment reconciliations, and providing principal and interest breakdowns on certain Alternative Investments as distributions are received.     Who Are You? Full time student preferably in Finance, Math, Accounting, Economics, or related fields. Student with experience in investment banking, private credit, private equity, and/or other investment management experience preferred Track record of achievement, expertise, and passion for investing Ideal candidate will be well organized, independent, entrepreneurial, assertive, self-motivated, detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects Ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, possessing a strong desire to understand complex transactions and situations in a dynamic environment Hard-working with a team-oriented approach Understanding of financial markets Strong quantitative, analytical, modeling and financial analysis skills Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization and develop/maintain external relationships Robust skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications What Security Benefit Can Offer You: Security Benefit offers a competitive compensation package tailored for interns.
