What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service mechanic position at Seneca Tank?
Summary :
Reporting to the Dealership Manager, the incumbent is responsible for diagnosing problems with the structure and functioning of liquid bulk tanks, chassis, and fluid delivery systems;
repairing and replacing necessary parts as indicated by diagnoses; and installing additional components to existing equipment.
This position has a target start date of August 2024.
Supervisory Responsibility :
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions :
Read job orders to determine work to be performed per customer request and / or Express Repair Service Manager's direction
Replace failing parts to restore proper functioning of equipment
Install additional parts to existing-units to upgrade or enhance functioning and / or efficiency
Repair malfunctioning parts, which includes welding and fabricating components and sub-components
Perform tests required by Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) on petroleum tanks and chassis (
Diagnose structural and operational problems with liquid bulk tanks, chassis, and fluid delivery systems to identify necessary repairs
Competencies :
Working knowledge of the proper use, maintenance, and repair of tools used on the job, including hand, electric, pneumatic, gas-welding / cutting tools
Skill to properly operate all tools used in the performance of essential job functions, such as hand / power tools and metal brakes / band saws, with accuracy.
Skill to repair machines or systems using the needed tools
Skill to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, policies, and regulations such as those found in work orders, work process protocols, and safety manuals
Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules
Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong with a tank / chassis unit or component, or a tool utilized in performing work
Trouble shooting skill to determine the cause of operating errors and decide what to do about them

Equipment :
Hand, power, and stationary tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, electric drills, pneumatic ratchets, welding / cutting torches, metal brakes, and metal-cutting band saws
Physical Demands :
Position requires ability to pass DOL requirements of a grade 4 heavy work physical capacity profile. This includes exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and / or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
Visual requirements include clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet without correction, color vision, depth perception and field of vision
Must be able to perform the following physical activities : Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions
Safety :
Follow U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T) regulations regarding petroleum tanks / trailers, as well as the policies found in Seneca Tank's Safety Manual.
Special Conditions of Employment :
Job holder is required to provide their own work tools.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of experience building or repairing diesel, gas, or hydraulic equipment utilizing hand, electric, and pneumatic tools
