Essential Duties and Responsibilities, Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, and Benefits are as follows:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for overall strategy in all aspects of safety for all Shepler’s functional
areas including overland transportation, marina operations, dock operations and vessel
operations and for all locations including Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island and St. Ignace - Develop and monitor the Safety Program and safety initiatives
- Liaise with Worker’s Compensation provider and other insurance carriers to review and
implement as needed safety initiatives - Monitor compliance with safety procedures and standards
- Ensure all Cast Member operating company equipment and vehicles have required
certifications - Monitor and follow-up with Cast Members to ensure required safety certifications are
current, valid and on file with the organization - Ensure Cast Member training on applicable safety standards is conducted and documented
- Review safety training and recommends revisions, improvements and updates
- Oversee all aspects of drug testing program; ensure compliance with all regulations
- Ensure company equipment is ready for use at the start of the season in compliance with all
safety regulations - Ensure safety inspections are conducted and documented; audit safety programs to assess
employee compliance with safety regulations - Draft and implement internal safety standards and policies
- Review accidents and incidents reported by Cast Members and guests; identify
opportunities to minimize workplace injuries and accidents - Establish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the
organization
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health or related field
- Related experience in a professional role in Occupational Safety
- Significant experience leading broad-based safety programs including proven ability to collaborate and lead across functions
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable federal and state regulations and standards including OSHA, DOT, FMCSA and Coast Guard
- Strong knowledge of Worker’s Compensation regulations
- Proficiency with computer software and various systems and programs
- Ability to use computers
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel or related software
- Ability to use office equipment including computers, calculators and telephones
- Good written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face and telephone)
- Good analytical skills to comprehend and interpret complex regulations and perform data analysis
- Ability to use sound independent judgment in challenging situations that arise
- Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time

Salary : $60,000 - $65,000
