Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Kitchen Assistant to join our team. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our kitchen operations and ensuring the smooth running of meal preparation. Your role as the Kitchen Assistant is to facilitate the evening preparation of dinner for the 54 guests in our program as well as maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen ( Tues-Th from 12:30pm to 7:30pm). Every Saturday you will be assisting the Center as a kitchen supervisor, overseeing the the drop-in day program from 8am to 1:30pm. Due to the nature of our organization, this position gives preference to women.

Responsibilities:

- Assist in meal preparation, including chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and assembling dishes

- Follow food safety guidelines and ensure proper handling and storage of ingredients

- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas

- Assist with inventory management, including receiving and organizing deliveries

- Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure efficient workflow and timely service

- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment

- Assist volunteers in the preparation of breakfast and dinner.

Experience:

- Previous experience in the food industry or a similar role is preferred

- Knowledge of basic food handling procedures

- Familiarity with kitchen equipment, including knives and other tools

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately

- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team

- Kitchen custodial experience is required.
