The main function of a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is to develop and execute software test plans in order to identify software problems and their causes.

The main function of a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is to develop and execute software test plans in order to identify software problems and their causes.
Responsibilities :
- Execute test plans, scenarios, scripts or procedures
- Test system modifications to prepare for implementation
- Develop testing programs that address areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, or usability
- Document software defects, using a bug tracking system, and report defects to software developersIdentify, analyze and document problems with program function, output, online screen or content
- Monitor bug resolution efforts and track successes
- Create or maintain databases of known test defects
- Plan test schedules or strategies in accordance with project scope or delivery dates
- Develop and execute software testing components, develop automation solutions, and perform manual tests as needed throughout the SCLC.
- Ownership of automation architecture (both functional and performance) and set up test frameworks/infrastructure.
- Review of system architecture, code and design documents for specific modules.
- Perform Independent Assurance on all SDLC phases in a project.
- Actively participate in collaborative resolution of defects including root cause analysis of production incidents.
- Continually look for ways to innovate and improve testing process to gain efficiencies.
- Demonstrate business domain expertise in the project involved.
- Ensure compliance with technology policies and standards.
- Ensure adherence with technology policies and compliance with all security controls.
- Possess domain expertise in the project involved.
- Serve as technical subject matter expert.
- Create and execute complex test plans/scenarios across multiple systems as required to execute tests.
- Architect, design and develop automation code, scripts, utilities, simulators, data generators, API/Interface testing solutions and other programmatic test tools to test complex systems.
- Review and provide feedback on system architecture, code and design documents.
- Effectively communicate testing activities, findings and project risk in oral and written formats.
- Champion the collaborative resolution of defects including root cause analysis of production incidents.
- Computer science fundamentals - algorithm design, problem solving, complexity analysis and data structures.
- Testing process, test types, test design and testing methodologies
- Modern programming languages and common development technologies with software architecture and design skills.
- Functional or Performance or Security or DevOps test tools
- Architecting, designing and developing automation frameworks and test suites.
- Cloud related technologies
- Unix/Linux environment
