Position: Patient Access Specialist
Location: Tacoma and Olympia clinics
Department: Patient Services
Reports to: Site Manager
Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
- Interview patients to complete insurance and privacy forms during appointment check-in.
- Receive patient's insurance information and accurately enter into patient's account.
- Receive payments from patient and post correctly to billing system.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, check-ups and physician referrals.
- Compile and record medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
- Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, physicians, patients and referring provider offices in a professional and caring manner.
- Establish and maintains a professional and collaborative relationship with all staff in order to resolve problems and increase knowledge of insurance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or other leadership staff.
- Maintaining patient record confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, complying with practice policies and procedures.
Our charting program is entirely computer based, therefore a proficiency with computers is expected.
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent required.
- 2 year experience in medical reception or patient services/phone room; ophthalmology and retina preferred.
- Bilingual fluency (Spanish) a plus, but not required.
- Pre-auth verification; experience with obtaining authorizations, referral coordination and patient services a plus.
- Prior experience working Medicare, Medicaid, other government payers and commercial insurance a plus.
- Effective and professional written and verbal communication skills with peers as well as patients and providers.
- Team-player, with focus on compassionate patient care.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
- Customer service experience required.
