Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Referral Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in medical office procedures, insurance verification, and medical coding. Ultimately, you will work with a small team to organize, manage, and deliver referral documents on behalf of our patients to different departments in our health care facility.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for referrals
- Ensure accurate documentation of referral information in patient records
- Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance companies regarding referral status
- Utilize knowledge of medical coding, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes for proper referral processing
- Collaborate with medical staff to facilitate timely and appropriate referrals
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Qualifications
- Experience in a medical office setting or similar healthcare environment
- Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of medical records
- Knowledge of insurance verification processes and requirements
- Familiarity with ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Experience with Nextgen and MacPractice
