What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cybersecurity Work-Study Assistant (Federal Work Study) position at South Piedmont Community College (SPCC)?
We are looking for a Cybersecurity Work-Study Assistant to support our Information Security team. In this role, you will help monitor and improve our organization’s security by working with tools like SIEM, network scanning tools, email security, and firewall maintenance on a daily basis. - Monitor Security Events: Assist in monitoring security alerts in SIEM and help investigate any potential issues.
- Vulnerability Scanning: Run network scans to identify security vulnerabilities on networks and devices.
- Email Security: Help manage email security by blocking phishing emails, spam, and malicious attachments.
- Security Tickets – Generate, troubleshoot, and resolve security-related tickets.
- Documentation: Help document security incidents, scanning results, and other activities.
Required Qualifications
No prior experience is required! We’re looking for someone eager to learn and assist the cybersecurity team. Basic knowledge of computer networks or security concepts is helpful but not necessary.

Students must have completed a current year’s FAFSA, be eligible for Federal Financial Aid, be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) at South Piedmont Community College, be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (GPA of 2.000 or higher, a completion rate of 67% or higher, not exceeding the maximum timeframe of 150%) to apply.
