Position Summary
The Middle School Art teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program within the Arts Department. Programming will include middle school art competitions, sponsorship of the Junior Arts Honor Society, Art field trips, two middle school Featured Exhibits, and collaboratively leading the SCS Art Convention with the SCS Arts department. SCS Art programming guides and encourages students to fulfill their academic potential and promotes positive spiritual development. The teacher is expected to demonstrate patience, humility, integrity, and kindness while performing the day-to-day duties of the role and to prayerfully work with administration, faculty, students, and families to develop and maintain a school that is distinctively Christian, academically excellent, and globally minded.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates the ability to inspire learning and cultivate positive relationships with students
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop exhibitions in an established visual arts program
- Shares curation responsibilities and art exhibition expertise and implementation for a 2 featured exhibit season
- Provides appropriate classroom instruction and assessment, incorporating a biblical worldview
- Creates a classroom environment that encourages positive social interaction and active engagement and supports high expectations for learning
- Maintains order and stock of the school’s art studios and exhibiting spaces
- Creates a positive environment in the classroom and surrounding Fine Arts facilities of tidiness and order to the resources God’s entrusted us to
- Works in collaboration with Arts faculty to maintain order of the department’s resources and acts as a point person for the school on maintenance and care of such resources
- Uses available resources, including various technologies, to deliver instruction and assess student learning
- Uses available resources, including 3D, 2D, and photography artistic tools to advance theatrical productions
- Uses technology in the way of Adobe Photoshop, ProCreate, and other design software to advance exhibitions and teach students to do the same
- Uses technology in the way of lighting, sound, and submission portals for competition to advance the visual art’s exhibitions/competitions and teach students to do the same
- Maintains accurate gradebook records and posts lesson plans weekly
- Maintains clear, open, professional communication with team members, parents, and other school employees
- Exhibits a willingness to participate in the school community by supporting, sponsoring, and/or leading extracurricular activities
Requirements
Educational & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a visual arts field from an accredited college or university
- Current ACSI and/or State Teaching Certificate
- Two or more years of classroom teaching experience is preferred, specifically in the visual arts or closely related discipline
- Experience using technology for art creation, such as Adobe Photoshop, ProCreate, and other design software
- Experience using technology for classroom instruction, exhibit season planning/promotions, and community collaboration

Work Environment
The work environment at Southwest Christian School is consistent with a typical school setting. The employee normally works indoors but may be required to be outdoors in unpredictable temperatures to monitor student activities, attend programs and field trips, or move between buildings. The noise level in the environment is usually low to moderate but may become loud occasionally. The employee is frequently required to interact with others within the school community, including parents and other caregivers.
