Summary

Works under the supervision of a licensed OT in order to provide occupational therapy services to children from birth to age 21 with a variety of diagnoses and developmental delays by performing the following duties. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties maybe assigned.

  • Competently identify the occupational therapy needs of the child by gathering, disseminating, and interpreting data to establish child-centered goals. Assists the supervising OT with patient re-evaluations and goal setting to develop a plan of care that optimizes patient engagement in the therapeutic process. 
  • Implements patient-centered and evidenced-based interventions that are consistent with the plan of care and supports progress toward established goals. 
  • Reassess effectiveness of the interventions using evidence-based assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to determine if there are modifications needed to the plan of care.
  • Assists the supervising OT with fabricating splints and other equipment as therapeutically needed and appropriate to reach goals.
  • Reports information and observations to supervising OT.
  • Assists in instructing patient and family or guardian in home programs as well as care and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Communicate occupational therapy processes by documenting accurate and relevant information in the patient electronic medical record. 
  • Facilitates interprofessional team collaboration to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and high-quality patient interventions. 
  • Adheres to professional and ethical codes of conduct and regulations. 
  • Perform routine self-assessment of current knowledge and skills to establish relevant professional development plan to enhance decision-making and competence.
  • Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.
  • Respect diversity through collaborating with the patient and family or guardian during the occupational therapy process to enhance patient-centered services and ensure continuity of patient plan of care.  

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in an COTA program.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and web-based applications such as electronic medical records.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Active and unencumbered Tennessee State COTA License required, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with skills testing required. HIPAA certification encouraged.
