Position: Director of Development


Reports to: Senior Director of Marketing & Development


FLSA Status: Full Time Exempt


Description

Special Olympics Delaware (SODE) seeks an enthusiastic Director of Development to join its growing Marketing & Development team. The Director of Development will be responsible for acquiring, cultivating, and engaging

sponsors, donors, and corporate partners tied to fundraising events and initiatives. This individual will also be

responsible for the development and execution of special event fundraisers that fuel the mission of Special

Olympics.


Major Responsibilities

o Identify, develop, solicit, and cultivate new and existing sponsors, donors, and corporate partners

affiliated with fundraising events and initiatives which benefit SODE

o Provide ongoing stewardship to sponsors in a timely manner, including but not limited to, awareness

of upcoming events, potential involvement as volunteers, and/or participation in a fundraising event

o Ensure sponsorship fulfillment is met based upon established agreements and practices

o Represent SODE in the corporate and philanthropic communities of Delaware to generate

opportunities to further connect business and community leaders with SODE’s mission

o Oversee the development and execution of special event fundraisers

o Coordinate event logistics, including registration and attendee tracking, with an emphasis on increasing

retention and decreasing attrition, strengthening the SODE brand, and expanding SODE’s profile and

reach into new constituent groups

o In collaboration with the Marketing & Development team, help create and oversee the design of event

communications, invitations and promotional materials on all marketing platforms to include social media

o Working closely with the Director of Volunteers, recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist in the

execution of special events

o Manage volunteer committees for events, including developing goals and objectives for committees,

facilitating meetings and leading members to successfully complete the goals and objectives established

o Create and adhere to project budgets and timelines for special events

o Track and collect funds raised for special events including monitoring progress of registrants

o Analyze registration and revenue data post-event to maximize future opportunities

o Communicate with event participants, respond to queries in a timely manner

o Ensure communication methods and tools used during and after events provide a positive and memorable

experience for all participants, supporting staff, and volunteers with a focus on retention of all involved

o Working with the Marketing & Development team, design fundraising strategies to meet the current and

future revenue needs of SODE

o Candidate must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and possess the ability to multitasko Collaborate with staff to implement the best written, visual, and audio content that supports special

events, initiatives and campaigns taking place

o Responsible for the management, setup and tear-down of assigned events; contributes to other

events when necessary

o Assist in other duties within Marketing & Development or other areas as assigned



Qualifications

o Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in marketing, business,

communications, or a related area

o Five or more years of professional experience and proven success in soliciting and negotiating

sponsorship proposals, reporting and tracking gifts and deliverables, donor stewardship and

relationship building

o Established proficiency and practical experience in nonprofit fundraising event management

o Maturity of judgment, high level of accuracy and close attention to detail, with strong ethical sense to

handle sensitive gift and donor information appropriately

o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a particular emphasis on writing talents

o Highly organized with the ability to successfully handle multiple projects, prioritize work, and adapt

easily to changing priorities while meeting critical deadlines

o Proven ability to work as a team player with various groups and organizations

o Ability to exercise good judgment and diplomacy in dealing with volunteer leadership

o Understanding of the mission and function of Special Olympics Delaware or similar charity

o Willingness to travel statewide and work a 40 hour work week; night and weekend work will be

required at times

o Able to occasionally lift and move 25-50 pounds

o Must be able to pass a background check



Compensation

o Salary range $45,000 - $65,000

o Full Medical & Dental Benefits, 100% cover for individuals

o Longevity Bonuses, Life insurance, 401k Match, Paid Time Off

Schedule

o 40 hours/week on site

o Nights and weekends as needed
