DME Technician

Specialty Orthopedic Group is looking for a full-time DME Technician to join our team. Responsibilities include assisting with casting, splinting, wound care, and applying durable medical equipment (DME) for orthopedic injuries. The role is Monday through Friday, and while experience is preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate. Some travel to satellite clinics may be required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Measure and apply DME products to patients as directed by the provider, ensuring proper fit, and educate patients and caregivers on product use, care, and expected outcomes, while following up with patients experiencing difficulties with their brace, DME equipment, cast, or splint.
• Facilitate patient flow and assist physician and clinic staff with coordination of patient care, including greeting and walking patients back to exam rooms and updating their medical information.
• Fit patients with durable medical equipment (DME) and explain patient financial responsibilities.
• Verify patients' insurance coverage of DME supplies and obtain insurance authorization, while educating patients on their insurance plan and possible financial responsibilities.
• Follow insurance guidelines and obtain prior approvals from insurance companies for DME.
• Maintain appropriate levels of casting supplies and DME inventory, keeping cast rooms fully stocked, ensuring cleanliness after each patient, and ordering clinical DME supplies in a cost-effective manner.
• Count inventory and submit orders for medical equipment.
• Work in a fast-paced clinic environment, assisting the medical equipment department.
• Coordinate DME needs for surgeries at our ASC and other hospital facilities.
• Travel to satellite clinic locations as needed.
• Complete cross-training as a cast tech and fulfill those responsibilities as required.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA rules and regulations.
• Strong communication skills are essential.

One of the key attributes sought in a candidate for this role is flexibility. The ideal candidate must be able to commit to full-time work, including the possibility of working beyond 5 p.m. on certain days as required. Additionally, the candidate should be prepared to travel to any of our satellite clinic offices as necessary.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• One year experience in casting or DME fitting preferred but not required
• Flexibility to work in other SOG clinics as needed
• High School Diploma or GED required
• 1-2 years of relevant experience is preferred, though not mandatory; casting experience is a plus, but not essential.
