Overview

The Settlements internship will consist of 10 – 12 weeks of fulltime Settlements work. The Settlement Intern is responsible for support of market and/or transmission settlements, or other entry-level tasks as needed.  The Settlement Intern provides support for the settlement staff, Supervisor of Settlements, Manager of Settlements, and Director of Settlements as necessary

Essential Functions

    • Primary support of daily market or transmission settlement production activities
      • Perform pre-settlement validations of billing determinants from source system interfaces
      • Perform settlement runs and posting activities in accordance with the market or transmission settlement calendar
      • Perform post-settlement validations for daily settlement statements and other reports for market participants
      • Ensure compliance with all settlement control activities subject to the annual SOC1 audit including maintenance of all documentation providing evidence of performance of those activities
    • Track and document progress on applicable production activities
    • Assist on special projects as assigned. Examples:
      • Tableau Report Development
      • Unit testing of the calculations
      • Member testing support
      • Update market or transmission settlement process documents
    • The Settlements Intern is expected to be competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development, time keeping, etc. 
    • The Settlements Intern should provide basic support to help project groups meet aggressive time schedules
    • Settlements Intern is expected to embrace and promote the SPP Culture, Mission and Core Values in attitude toward stakeholder relationships, current work assignments as well as long term goals and strategic initiative of the organization.  The Settlements Intern should incorporate a fundamental working understanding of the SPP Culture Drivers, Mission and Core Values and apply this directly to all Settlements assignments and any SPP related effort, not necessarily limited to Settlements.
    • Resolve data errors in the operations of settlement computations

    Update market or transmission settlement process documents as changes to processes are made

    • Respond to requests for data and financial analysis
    • Assist Director of Settlements, Manager of Settlements, Supervisor of Settlements, and other SPP staff as necessary
    • Comply with SPP Policies and Procedures

    Education Requirements:

    • A college student entering Senior year, working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
    • 0 GPA or above

    Experience Requirements:

    • No experience required

    Preferred:

    • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, and PPT.
    • Financial, analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Experience with any of the following could be utilized: SQL, SAS, Groovy, Java, Linux, Tableau, Oracle, Mongo
    • Ability to communicate effectively with settlement analysts, accountants, engineers, management and senior management. This communication, both written and oral, is for the purposes of requests, analysis, coordination, guidance and presentations
    • Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus
    • Knowledge of computer business applications and data base management systems

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to make decisions, interpret data, and problem solve.

    • The employee frequently is required to stand or sit for extended periods; use hands to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
    • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds.
    • Requires the ability to work and collaborate with managers and employees at all levels to exchange ideas, information, and opinions to facilitate the task.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

    This is an intern position. Days and hours of workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

    Travel Requirement:

    This position requires no travel
