SPRO Coffee Lab

We're looking for a barista with moderate experience and an enthusiasm for specialty coffee. An ideal candidate will demonstrate a dedicated curiosity and openness to learn more about cutting edge theories and techniques in coffee brewing & mixology. A passion for hospitality is a must. We are looking for hardworking team-players who can work efficiently in high-pressure environments to provide meaningful guest experiences.

Starting Pay (training period): $19/hour Tips (average $4 per hour)

Location 1: Mission Bay/SOMA (601 Mission Bay Boulevard North)

We are inside a food truck park in a permanent trailer that is non-mobile (it means we never move from the spot) and hooked up to plumbing and electricity. It's an outdoor, lively environment that draws a lot of unique visitors each day. A few blocks away from Chase center and Oracle Park.

Location 2: 500 Church St, San Francisco, CA 94114

A quaint brick-and-mortar coffeeshop with a more service-oriented approach and a larger focus on in-house dining experience. We have a full pour-over bar, coffee cocktail program, and the espresso bar (the main attraction and focus of our cafe). Walking distance to Mission Dolores Park!

Availability Requirement:

Part-Time (20-30 hours / week) and Full-Time (30-40 hours / week) positions available. We are currently hiring for both locations. Must be available on weekends (at least one shift per weekend). Our baristas typically work 8 hour days but there is flexibility in our schedule to fit your needs. Our staffing hours are from 6am-6pm. (opening shifts, mid-shifts, closing shifts available).

Job Description:

• Prepare and create our full menu of espresso, pour-over, tea, and signature drinks to SPRO's standard of quality and consistency in a high-volume cafe setting
• Develop a continuously-expanding understanding and mastery of espresso and pour-over brew methods (Dialing in recipes throughout the course of the day)
• Restock and prepare batch brews (house-made syrups, condiments, tea options, signature drinks, ingredients, etc.) as well as cafe supplies (napkins, paper cups, straws, toilet paper, etc.) to ensure the success of our team and to provide a seamless, enjoyable customer experience
• Housekeeping duties: bussing tables, washing dishes, cleaning equipment, wiping counters, and maintaining a clean and sanitary workspace at all times
• Provide meaningful customer experiences with exceptional hospitality, thoughtfulness and attention to detail when crafting drinks, and maintaining a comfortable, safe, engaging cafe environment for all guests
• Work alongside a stellar team to complete daily tasks, provide excellent service, and develop ourselves as coffee & food professionals

What we need from you:

• Passionate about coffee, food, and creating special hospitality experiences
• Must be punctual, responsible, and reliable
• Must be able to multitask and work in a fast-paced, high-volume, and customer-facing work setting
• Must be teachable and open to new ideas and techniques regarding coffee and food
• Must be a selfless team player and willing to work alongside people of various backgrounds
• Must be willing to communicate openly and engage with your teammates in a productive, professional manner to ensure the success of the team (no room for big egos here)
• Must have attention to detail (passion for delivering your best)
• Must have a strong work ethic and willingness to do the "dirty work" of running a cafe
• Basic math and computer skills
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
