What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Director position at St. John Lutheran Church?
St. John Lutheran Church is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as our Youth and Family Minister/Director. This position will work closely with the Pastor and the Christian Education Committee to develop and implement programs that engage and support youth and families within our congregation. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to Christian values, an understanding of Lutheran theology, a heart for youth ministry, and the ability to lead, organize, and inspire volunteers.
**Responsibilities:**
1. Develop, implement and/or maintain a comprehensive youth ministry program that includes regular gatherings, Bible studies, retreats, service projects, and social events.
2. Collaborate with the Christian Education Committee to integrate youth activities with the overall educational mission of the church.
3. Recruit, train, and support volunteers to assist with youth programs and events.
4. Build relationships with youth and families, providing pastoral care, guidance, and support as needed.
5. Plan and oversee special events such as youth camps, mission trips, and community outreach initiatives.
6. Coordinate communication with youth and families through various channels, including social media, email, newsletters, and church bulletins.
7. Work with the Pastor and Church staff to integrate youth into the life of the congregation, including participation in worship services, leadership roles, and ministry opportunities.
8. Stay informed about trends and best practices in youth ministry, adapting programs as needed to meet the evolving needs of our youth and families.
9. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for youth, adhering to all child protection policies and procedures.
**Qualifications:**
1. Previous experience working with youth in a church or ministry setting.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to youth, parents, volunteers, and church leaders.
3. Knowledge of Lutheran theology and traditions.
4. Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience recruiting, training, and empowering volunteers.
5. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, with attention to detail and follow-through.
6. Commitment to personal spiritual growth and ongoing professional development.
7. Willingness to undergo background checks and complete required training in child protection policies and procedures.
