What are the responsibilities and job description for the 5th and 6th Grades Social Studies Teacher position at St. John's Episcopal School?
St. John’s seeks a Social Studies Teacher for Grades 5 and 6. This is a full-time (10-month), benefits-eligible position with an August 2025 start date.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach middle school social studies to students in Grades 5 and 6.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of middle school teaching pedagogy.
- Serve as an active member of the advisory program.
- Integrate appropriate educational technology in a 1:1 iPad classroom.
- Lead an extracurricular activity (coaching, clubs, etc.)
- Attend school dances, overnight trips, open houses, conference days, etc.
The successful candidate is an energetic, high performer committed to the school’s mission, and who impresses with their drive, joy, and initiative. He or She will have the opportunity to shape the development of a new state-of-the-art facility as the school moves towards completion of a truly transformative master plan centered on an 80,000 sq. feet campus building. Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in history or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in an independent school, middle school level experience preferred.
- Genuine affinity for working with children and families in an educational setting.
- Ability to make independent decisions along with maintaining the confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
- High level of competence using technology.
- Teaching experience in a K(4) – 8 environments, preferably in independent schools.
