What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rehabilitation Technician position at St. John's United?

Description:

*Relief Thursday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm with some flexibility*

SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision of a physical therapist or an occupational therapist, performs only delegated, selected, or routine tasks in specific situations. These duties include preparing the resident/patient/client and the treatment area and support the cares of the LTC/ALF residents and TRC patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities to Resident/Patient/Clients:

  • LTC/TRC Admissions: Provide and set up needed equipment (i.e. w/c, walker, toilet riser, portable O2 and any other equipment needs)
  • LTC/TRC Discharges: Remove, clean and restock all rehab equipment from rooms
  • Transport residents/patients/clients to and from treatment areas, using wheelchairs or assist with walking
  • Assist therapist with treatments including private pay, walking assist, HEP under the direction of the therapist, co-treatments, group supervision
  • Complete appropriate documentation of cares provided
  • Retrieve and return vehicle for home evaluations
  • Assist with patient care with typical C.N.A. duties and/or room clean outs at directed by Supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Equipment Management:

  • Keep inventory of wheelchairs and parts and order per direction of OT
  • Provide maintenance on LTC/TRC wheelchairs (brakes, foot pedals, backs) and walkers
  • Take, set up, remove equipment from LTC/TRC rooms per direction of therapist
  • TCR: Maintain inventory and stock in gym of supplies (i.e. Kleenex, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer, towels, gloves, pillow cases, etc.)
  • TCR: Fax equipment orders and patient face sheets to vendor for the ordering of equipment for discharge with follow up for delivery

Sanitation/Cleaning:

  • Clean and organize TRC treatment area including disinfecting equipment, mats, countertops, sink, etc.
  • Change lines
  • Maintain “dirty” and “clean area”
  • Provide extra vigilance disinfection during illness outbreaks
  • Laundry- Rehab linens, fold and put away

Record Keeping:

  • Answer TRC telephone calls/voice messages, take and relay messages
  • Make copies of forms, home exercise programs, and maintain filing system for therapist access
  • Take appropriate forms/documentation records to medical records for upload
  • LTC: Send out Medicare Non-Coverage form for upcoming therapy discharges, keep record of return/non-returns, provides a copy to medical records for upload

Scheduling:

  • TCR: Schedule patients and email schedules to nursing and culinary staff, print copies for individual therapist
  • Write schedules for the following day on patient’s boards

Safety:

  • Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United
  • Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards
  • Attends mandatory safety in-services

Employee Responsibilities:

  • Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
  • Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services and completes Relias modules as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:

Minimum Requirements: Must be a High School Graduate or possess GED, C.N.A Certified. One to two years of C.N.A. experience in Skilled Nursing preferred. Willingness to become certified as Rehab Tech through SJU training and educational program within the first year of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires moderate physical work more than 50% of the time, including lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves some exposure to hazards, blood borne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Normal health care environment.
  • Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment.
