What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surveyor I, II, III position at St. Louis County?

The annual starting salary ranges for each position are as follows and will be based on experience and qualifications:
Surveyor I (5 years of experience) $48,651 - $58,381
Surveyor II (Land Surveyor in Training ) $54,496 - $65,395
Surveyor III (Professional Land Surveyor) $61,027 - $73,236
The Surveyor I position will be required to perform snow removal. This would consist of a mandatory 12 hours shift. There is a $6 per hour addition to pay for snow shifts.
Surveyor I
Serve on a survey crew staking road construction projects and identifying right of way, including interpreting construction plans and entering the design elements into field survey controller software.
Document activities with digital and written records of all measurements, calculations and conclusions.
Research previous survey evidence and title documents including monuments, deeds, plats, maps, geodetic controls and benchmarks as needed.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Surveyor IIProduce property boundary surveys affecting real property rights, under the guidance of a Professional Land Surveyor, defining appropriate legal principles for property boundary resolution and applying them.
Solve surveying problems through use of advanced algebra, trigonometry and geometry, to include horizontal and vertical traverse adjustments, and horizontal and vertical curve computations.
Document activities with digital and written records of all measurements, calculations and conclusions.
Research previous survey evidence and title documents including monuments, deeds, plats, maps, geodetic controls and benchmarks as needed.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Surveyor III
Review and interpret construction plans and surveys published by engineering and surveying consultants to ensure conformity with Missouri minimum survey standards and prepare survey field crews for roadway construction projects.
Make and communicate Professional Land Surveying judgments and publish surveys affecting real property rights.
Determine project specific methods and procedures for establishing, maintaining or re-establishing project survey control, including responsibility for positioning based on both local projects and geodetic datum.
Research previous surveys evidence and title documents including: monuments, deeds, plats, maps, geodetic controls and benchmarks needed for execution and publication of surveys.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Surveyor I
Equivalent to five years of related experience. Requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the probationary period and will be subject to CDL drug testing.
Surveyor II
Enrollment as a Land Surveyor-In-Training by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Landscape Architects (APEPLSLSA).
Surveyor III
Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Landscape Architects (APEPLSLSA) and two years of related experience.
All positions require a current, valid driver's license. SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
