About Kingshighway Library:
- Home to over 30,000 circulating items.
- The only SLPL location to feature a Yarn Library, which allows members of the community to take and donate free yarn each month. Started in March 2023, it has served over 2,000 customers, given out over 7,000 skeins of yarn and processed nearly 9,000 donations.
- The current location was opened in 2001, replacing an existing building that was built in 1962. Previously, the branch was based out of a storefront on Shaw Boulevard on The Hill.
- Its distinct round structure features a series of large picture windows which face Kingshighway Boulevard and Southwest Avenue. These allow an abundance of natural light to enter the building.
Despite its small size, it boasts one of the highest circulation rates in the system and is a popular site for customers to both pick-up holds and drop off items.
About the neighborhood:
- The Kingshighway Branch Library serves The Hill, Southwest Gardens, and Shaw neighborhoods. It sits two blocks north of Tower Grove Park and two blocks east of The Missouri Botanical Garden.
- Across the street are the offices of Brightside St. Louis, the Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Re-Leaf, and Brightside’s Demonstration Garden and Learning Center. The Library maintains strong relationships with each and shares goals of conservation and learning.
