What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ministry Coordinator position at St. Luke United Methodist Church?
Purpose:
To manage all aspects of the church office as well as oversee the use, care and maintenance of the Family Life Center and church building. To work with the pastor, staff and ministry leaders to coordinate ministry, facility usage, volunteers, and outside groups.
Major Functions:
1. Keep alive a vital relationship with Jesus Christ.
2. Develop a clear vision of his/her ministry in relation to the greater vision of the congregation
3. Be present in the church office during regular office hours or have someone fill in
4. Manage incoming calls, personal visits to the office, incoming mail and outgoing mail
5. Provide guidance to the custodian in their work
6. Report all building issues to the Trustees
7. Secure all supplies needed for the church office, custodian and kitchen within budget
8. Write checks in the absence of the Financial Secretary
9. Maintain a calendar of church events
10. Prepare, mail, and email the weekly newsletter
11. Prepare bulletins for all worship service
12. Assist the pastor in administrative tasks
13. Keep church membership current and track Sunday worship attendance
14. Prepare and mail meeting notices and other correspondence for committees as needed
15. Prepare for, attend, and participate in staff meeting
16. Notify families of memorials, honorariums and send thank you notes to givers.
17. Schedule and Notify: Lay Liturgist, Ushers, Greeters, Money Counters, Fellowship Time, Birthday Cards, and other ministry areas
18. Schedule flowers for Worship
19. Work with church ministry leaders to schedule facilities, coordinate volunteers, and order supplies
20. Send church wide email notifications of upcoming events, recent deaths, and other announcements
21. Work with the pastor to fill out Annual Reports due to the United Methodist Conference of Mississippi
22. Any other duties as directed by the pastor
Background Requirements:
Experience doing administrative work, write and verbally communicate effectively, experience in managing office and personnel, experience scheduling volunteers, computer skills, preferred knowledge and experience in the United Methodist Church
Leadership Skills Required:
Realistic goal setting, effective time management, ability to delegate appropriately, set priorities in line with the United Methodist discipline and St Luke’s goals. Understand one’s job description, set realistic goals and targets, measure and evaluate level of completion and feedback to appropriate officials.
Human Relations Skills Required:
Contact with all age groups occurs. It is important to be a good listener, to be compassionate and observant, to be tactful and diplomatic, caring and approachable, to communicate clearly, be positive and enthusiastic, be encouraging to others, put self-will aside to the greater good. Pleasant phone skills. Has the ability to hold confidentiality on sensitive church matters.
Problem-Solving Skills Required:
Be multi-tasked oriented, able to set priorities and carefully schedule events including preparation time. Be able to focus on the task at hand to completion. Attention to detail without losing sight of the goal. Seek guidance and take it.
Accountability or Authority Given:
Day to day decisions in purchasing items needed and the placement of items on the church calendar. Pastor is to be consulted on major purchases and building issues as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility, sitting for long periods of time, operate basic office equipment, operate a computer workstation, light to moderate exertion, a valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance card are required and a record of any current moving violations. (These to be copied and placed in the personnel file.)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
