Piano Accompanist Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide piano music at worship services, including Sunday, mid-week services (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week etc.), and all special occasions of worship services where the piano is the primary instrument used. This includes all liturgical aspects of the worship including prelude, postlude, offertory, etc.
- 1 week off a month, typically plays 3 Sundays a month as well as special services.
- Rehearse with and accompany all musical groups (when needed) that lead or provide special music. This includes the Senior Choir (Rehearsals on Wednesdays September-May), Special Music, and help with Children’s Music.
- Work cooperatively with the Pastor, Choir Director, Office Manager, and volunteer worship participants where appropriate.
- If available, provide piano music for weddings and funerals held at St. Mark for additional pay, consulting with couples or families if requested.
- Oversee the tuning and maintenance of pianos.
- Maintain a continuing professional level of musical training appropriate to the position, as it evolves in the future.
Job Requirements
- Experience in church worship, with piano and other music and hymnody (understanding and familiarity with Lutheran worship preferred but not required).
- High degree of competence with piano and the ability to accompany groups and individuals.
- Sensitivity and the ability to interact with a variety of people.
- Responsible to the Pastor as the Chief of Staff.
- Bell choir experience is a plus.
- Organ experience is a plus.
**Organ experience is not required but we have an electronic organ to use if desired.
Average of 8 hours a week, salary range $25-30/hr based on candidate education, experience, and skill level.
