HOUSEKEEPING TECHNICIAN

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for preventing the spread of infection and providing a clean, safe, aseptic, and attractive environment for patients, visitors, and employees. Housekeeping Technicians routinely clean and disinfect all areas of the clinic, including patient rooms, front office area, laboratory area, waiting areas, public and employee restrooms, downstairs apartment, break room/kitchen areas, downstairs business, shower area, and storerooms when needed. This position is also responsible for the disposal of garbage and medical waste following St Vincent Health policies and procedures. Housekeeping Technicians may be required to perform tasks which involve exposure to visible blood contamination or reasonably anticipated blood contamination. The Housekeeping Technician must follow the required procedures for handling, cleaning, disinfecting, and disposing or moving of objects/materials and/or the clean-up of blood, infectious materials, or body fluids containing blood in accordance with St. Vincent policies and procedures. Housekeeping Technicians are also responsible for floor care including dust mopping, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, stripping and waxing. In addition to cleaning, Housekeeping Technicians are responsible for quality control of incoming clean linen, the stocking of linen where needed, the cleaning and stocking of all housekeeping closets, and all upkeep of housekeeping equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or GED, required.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous housekeeping experience preferred, but not required.

POSITION DUTIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Environmental Services Operations

  • Perform a variety of assigned routine cleaning tasks, including but not limited to, collecting and removing trash, cleaning and disinfecting ALL surfaces, dusting, dust mopping, disinfecting, and cleaning of assigned areas in a timely manner. Assigned areas will routinely include, but are not limited to, patient rooms, front office area, laboratory area, waiting areas, public and employee restrooms, downstairs apartment, break room/kitchen areas, downstairs business, shower area, and storerooms.
  • Stocks paper items and other supplies in as necessary or designated.
  • Perform floor maintenance vacuuming, dust mopping, scrubbing, buffing, stripping and waxing in all areas of the clinic.
  • Clean and disinfect all surfaces including “high touch” areas throughout the clinic using established procedures.
  • Properly use all chemicals using established procedures.
  • Perform terminal cleans in all areas of the clinic according to established procedures.
  • Adhere to St Vincent Health infection prevention practices and standards, including biohazard waste handling, PPE standards, hand washing techniques, and standard or isolation precautions.
  • Empty and transport soiled linen to appropriate locations.
  • Empty all trash, replace liners, and transport to appropriate locations.
  • Empty biohazard receptacles, replace liner/bin, and transport to appropriate location.
  • Dispose of sharps containers according to policies and procedures.
  • Maintain adequate stock of cleaning chemicals, supplies and equipment. Report to Department Leader any items needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including EVS closets, carts, mop buckets, and trash cans used.
  • Respond to questions and request from patients, staff, and visitors, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Follow all policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
