Job Description
Performs intermediate professional work in planning and implementing the County's recreational programs. Does related work as required. Duties are performed under the general direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor. Supervision is exercised over assigned personnel.
The hiring range for this position is $27.87/hour to $38.33/hour based on experience.
The full salary range for this position is $27.87/hour to $48.78/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.
Examples of Duties
- Plans and organizes recreational programs and services for citizens of all ages;
- Supervises and instructs recreational programs;
- Trains part-time, seasonal, and volunteer staff;
- Prepares and maintains records and files;
- Plans, organizes, and evaluates recreational programs for all segments, groups, and ages of the community;
- Supervises fee class instructors, seasonal personnel, and volunteers;
- Gathers information and makes recommendations for the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies;
- Interviews and recommends for hire part-time and/or seasonal personnel;
- Prepares reports on recreational programs;
- Provides information to the public and responds to citizen and agency request for information regarding recreational programs;
- Evaluates recreational programs, instructors, volunteers, and coaches; and
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of public recreation;
- Thorough knowledge of the facilities and equipment needed in programs;
- Thorough knowledge of current safety principles and practices as they apply to parks and recreation programs and facility usage;
- Thorough knowledge of human behavior of individuals in groups participating in recreation activities;
- Ability to develop and implement recreational programs;
- Thorough knowledge of computer and/or computer applications;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records and reports;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, program participants, and the general public.
Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation and some experience in community recreation programs or any combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience is required.
