Job Summary
With limited supervision, the Network and Firewall Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s network and firewall systems to ensure the security of IT infrastructure. They will manage switches, firewalls, and access points within office environments, as well as preparing equipment for deployment at remote solar sites. The Network and Firewall Engineer will work closely with various teams to gain insight into business needs and make changes as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review current network topology and firewall configurations to create diagrams of existing infrastructure.
- Identity and troubleshoot network issues regarding access points, VPN, and remote sites.
- Ensure the security and efficiency of network and firewall systems by monitoring network traffic, detecting security incidents, and performing audits or updates as necessary.
- Collaborate with various departments, including Construction, Engineering, and IT, to ensure the successful operation of networking equipment and firewalls.
- Work with vendors to ensure internet connectivity at project sites and verify that security best-practices are adhered to.
- Manage physical and cloud-based firewalls, along with site-to-site VPNs.
- Assist in the development of standardized processes for the company regarding network and firewall implementations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 2-5 years minimum networking and firewall experience.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco switches, Meraki Access Points, Microsoft Azure, and/or virtualized environments.
- Organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with the Solar industry and/or SCADA systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with Operational Technology Security standards.
POSITION ROUTINELY INTERFACES WITH:
- IT, Construction, and Engineering departments
- External vendors
- All employees, including Senior and Executive Management
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Mainly conducts work in a professional office setting with local travel to jobsites to conduct inspections as needed.

Physical working conditions may involve the following:
- Lifting up-to 50 pounds.
- Extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, reaching, and/or bending.
- Extended periods of reading fine print on a computer or in paper-based format.

Routine aspects of this position may place the incumbent in situations where they may be susceptible to potential hazards from the following:
- Trips, slips and/or falls while on customer property.
- Chemical abrasives are used in office and kitchen cleaning.
- Lifting items up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Extended desk and computer, stationary work
- Other hazardous conditions on customer premises, not otherwise defined here.
