Coaches and assists students in seated and virtual formats in a variety of academic issues including time management, study skills, test taking skill, etc. at the Crutchfield Education Center. Works as a team member with faculty at the Crutchfield Education Center. Reviews and requests new materials, maintains records, and prepares a variety of reports. This position reports to the AVP of Health Sciences and Public Services.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Required: Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, with experience teaching math or sciencesExcellent communication, collaboration, project management and organizational skills Innovative and solution-oriented approach to working with studentsAbility to track statistics on a quarterly basisExcellent interpersonal skills Ability to value all members of the team as professionals Preferred: Master’s DegreeExperience working with medical or other health education students2 – 3 years of experience in community college advising and counseling individuals about learning strategies and academic successExperience with a peer tutoring or mentoring programCommunity College experience
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Mentor students on academic issues such as time management, study skills, test taking, test anxiety, etc. by developing an action plan for each student and following up with students as neededCreates, maintains, documents, and presents workshops/teaching modules covering topics such as time management, study skills, test taking, test anxiety, etc.Contributes to the online presence of the Student Success Center by developing online modules, workshops, guides, etc. covering various topicsRefers students to other student related services as appropriateDevelops and maintains close working relationships with faculty and staff for the various programs in which employee works by visiting classes, creating remediation plans, holding appropriate meetings, and providing written updates on work with students, attending prospective student informational sessions, etc.Maintains relevance with learning theory and best practices as related to working in an educational settingMaintains a friendly, working relationship with all members of the collegeMaintains accurate statistics on activities throughout the year; provides information in a timely manner for the AVP of Health Sciences and Public ServicesParticipates in faculty activities such as facilitating Interprofessional Education activities, peer review activities, etc.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.JOB TRAINING: Required Position Training to be completed in the first year of hire: Colleague/Datatel TrainingEarly Alert Training/Dropout DetectiveSelf-Service/WebAdvisor TrainingNew Student OrientationPolicy/Procedure Training Onboarding TrainingSuggested Training: Canvas TrainingSchool DudeOutlookWebcam/video conference training
