What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teaching Artists for During School position at Starting Arts?
Starting Arts is looking for experienced and enthusiastic Dance, Music, Theatre and Visual Art instructors to work in-person for our during-school and after school arts education programs. Ideal candidates are comfortable working with students in grades TK-8th grade.
Expertise in one of the above arts disciplines is required.
Teaching experience is desired, however, a teacher credential is not required.
This is a part-time independent contractor position starting January 2025. Commuting is required therefore reliable transportation is necessary. Artists work between 2-5 days per week, providing flexibility with additional work or academic schedules.
Starting Arts is a non-profit arts education organization founded in 2000 with a mission to make arts education accessible to all students in the Bay Area. We believe in the tremendous impact the arts have on students, and serve over 100 schools spanning from Menlo Park to Gilroy. Starting Arts provides Music, Dance, Theatre, & Visual Arts in the classroom in 6, 8 and 12 week rotations. Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with groups of 20 or more students
- Understanding of California Visual and Performing Arts Standards
- Ability to craft effective and targeted lesson plans
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Proven track record of success
- Responsible and on-time
- Clear and timely communicator via email and phone
- Reliable transportation
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
