Position Overview :
Operate the mainframe systems environments and the supporting structures. To monitor and complete all batch processing daily workloads for production and lower environments (test / development / training). Use of tools such as job schedulers such as IWS. Mainframe software knowledge of JCL, TSO, SDSF, ISPF, zOS / MVS and JES2 Commands. Working knowledge of MS Office products. Troubleshooting abends in batch processing and tools used to manage the environments. Must be capable of critical thinking, triaging issues and providing support to incident responders. Responsible for creating, updating, and training staff on department processes and procedures. Writing skills for reporting and training are critical. To be able to manage all shift responsibility in absence of the Manager. Working with the Manager to improve all daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly processes. Proficient in mainframe tools for monitoring and batch job scheduling.
Responsibilities :
- 75 %) Technical monitoring of the mainframe environments (use of tools), take corrective procedural actions for errors. Working with other IT teams in daily changes to batch processing and projects / special job runs that may require changes or updates to the scheduler. Interprets console messages from system software or application programs, and initiates action required. Keeping all services available and functioning. Independently can identify system malfunctions; initiates corrective action to maintain production schedules. Maintains records required to supplement console log, including documentation of problems and action taken Capable of critical thinking, triaging issues, and providing support to incident responders. Helping other IT teams with constructing timing for application additions and special project batch runs. Capable of critical thinking, triaging issues, and providing support to incident responders. Validating and creating processes and procedures. Proficient in placing service calls and following proper escalation procedures. Monitor, and escalate all service impacting events, when needed, to appropriate management and departments. Coordinate mainframe system maintenance or repairs and follow proper escalation procedures. Supporting team members and other IT teams with direction in error troubleshooting and reporting.
- 15 %) Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of operating procedures and standards. Demonstrates mastery of batch job scheduling, SDSF, ISPF, TSO, Netview,
zOS / MVS and JES2 commands. Running batch processing in multiple environments (scheduler), escalating issues as needed in a timely manner. Maintain a view of system loads and its impact on batch to determine if efficiency steps need to be taken. Ability to make changes to the job scheduler when requested. Focuses on continual improvement, specifically with service operations.
