State of Alaska is Hiring a Criminal Justice Tech - Admin Near Ketchikan, AK

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Criminal Justice Technician 2 position for the Ketchikan Correctional Center (KCC) in Ketchikan, Alaska.

What you will be doing:

Review, code and process all invoices and accounts payable.
Calculate and enter semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls.
Coordinate and arrange all staff and inmate travel.
Processes all incoming and outgoing inmate mail.
Review, approve and purchase inmate commissary items.
Perform case preparation and case management for the Electronic Monitoring (EM) program for KCC.

The Division of Institutions mission is to promote public safety. You will be contributing to that by supporting staff with administrative and criminal justice duties. You will be a valuable member of a small team who accomplishes all administrative functions for the correctional center.

The working environment you can expect:
You will work in the administrative offices of the Ketchikan Correctional Center. We are located in Ketchikan, Alaska. Your daily work environment will vary by day. Some days you will be focusing on accounting duties and payroll duties. Some days you will be assisting a Probation Officer with monitoring offenders on the Electronic Monitoring program. All days you will be utilizing computer programs, answering phones, and working with the general public as well as inmates.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for someone with the following competencies

A working knowledge of correctional practices.
Experience in computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and database programs.
Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions while remaining calm and organized.
A pattern of reliable behavior on the job.
Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.

Valid Driver's License required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Criminal Justice Technician 2
One year of paraprofessional experience in criminal justice, juvenile justice, probation, parole, public safety, law enforcement, corrections, court, legal services, law office, social services or public assistance programs or functions.
OR
One year of law enforcement or criminal justice experience equivalent to Correctional Officer 1, Adult Probation Officer 1, Court Services Officer, Juvenile Probation Officer 1, Juvenile Justice Officer 1 or State Trooper Recruit with the State of Alaska.
SUBSTITUTION:
Post-secondary education in criminal justice or social sciences will substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).

PREA NOTIFICATION

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;

EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview, at the discretion of the hiring manager.

Education completed in foreign colleges, universities, or high schools may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution or high school. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
WORK EXPERIENCE

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
FINGERPRINT NOTICE
All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.
