Office of Children's Services (OCS) is
recruiting for full-time Office Assistant 2 located in
Wasilla, Alaska.
What you will be doing
As an Office Assistant 2, you will provide a full-range of clerical and receptionist services, playing a vital role in the workflow of the office, which greatly contributes to our mission of strengthening Alaska's families and children. You will perform a range of duties, including complex data entry, creating and maintaining files and records, and back up support for other assigned administrative duties.

Working environment you can expect
This team is located in the Wasilla Regional Office, which is conveniently located next to many services and shopping such as Carrs! The selected candidate will work in an environment that supports the operations of OCS and will be the first point of contact for the public, including clients, vendors and new employees.

We are seeking a candidate with the following competencies:
  1. Clerical: Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, and using and completing forms.
  2. Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  3. Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside State government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  4. Reading: Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.
  5. Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Special Note
  • This position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a criminal records check.
  • The successful candidate may be required to attend multiple training courses normally located in Anchorage.

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
Special Note: 
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

At time of interview applicant is requested to submit:

  • A list of three (3) professional* references including daytime telephone numbers and email address; at least two (2) of these must be from a current or former supervisor.
    • Professional is defined as a supervisor or an individual who has direct knowledge of your work performance.

EDUCATION
