Job Summary
The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking to hire an experienced Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) responsible for the health and wellbeing of staff. The main focus of this position is to promote health , prevent illness, injury and protection from work environment hazards materials. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Family Medical Leave Act rules and implementation of the Return to Work program at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Tucson. Job Duties
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, a drug test, and a medical/physical examination.
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Job Duties
- Maintains OSHA Log in compliance with record-keeping guidelines (29 CFR 1904)
- Determines eligibility for leave under the Family Medical Leave Act in compliance with the rules
- Monitors industrial injury/illnesses in order to facilitate a safe return to work and ensures the work environment contributes to recovery
- Implements the return to work program, this includes modified duty, temporary work assignment
- Conducts TB and Hepatitis B clinics to required employees, monitors inoculations and tests for all department new hires and annual follow-up (20 CFR1910)
- Conducts in depth investigation of occupational exposure incidents, counsels employees, educates and monitors the process flow with required laboratory tests and case management
- Assists local managements with tracking employees’ absences due to health reasons
- Maintains confidentiality of occupational health medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) laws
- Implements wellness programs that support positive lifestyle changes and individual efforts to lower risk of disease and injury through health promotion, safety awareness, work-life balance
- Counsels staff on issues related to substance abuse and psychosocial needs
- Recognizes and identifies workplace hazards
- Monitors, evaluates and analyzes these hazards by conducting research on the effect of workplace exposures
- Coordinates and provides communicable disease testing, surveillance in compliance with Federal laws
- Maintains supply inventory, networks and partners with key customers regarding health and safety concerns that may impact employee
- Drives on State business
- Perform other duties appropriate to the assignment
