We’re seeking individuals with a passion for public service to join our dynamic team as a Legislative Assistant. This is an opportunity to play a crucial role in supporting the Senate’s efforts during the 2025 session!
Legislative Assistants serve in a variety of roles in Senators, committees, and support staff offices. Most people will serve in an Administrative, Committee Operations and Policy, or Communications capacity similar to those outlined below. However, each office’s needs are unique and the specific duties and qualifications may vary from those described in this posting.
Responsibilities may include:
Committee Operations and Policy
- Conduct policy research and prepare summaries and analysis of bills and proposed legislation
- Track and handle inquiries concerning the progress of legislation
- Coordinate public hearings and meetings, including scheduling, arranging meeting logistics, and preparing materials
- Support general office operations including constituent requests and administrative tasks
Administrative
- Support general office operations, including answering phones, managing email accounts, and maintaining files
- Respond to constituent inquiries and requests and handle inquiries concerning the progress of legislation
- Draft professional correspondence, newsletters, and social media content
- Assist with administrative tasks including meeting scheduling and preparation, data entry, editing and proofreading, and office management
Communications
- Assist in creating and managing social media content
- Draft press releases, newsletters, correspondence
- Help with media monitoring and analysis
- Provide support at events and press conferences
- Support general office and committee operations including constituent requests, committee hearings, and administrative tasks

Position Salary range of $2,500.00 to $4,600.00 per month. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with online meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.)
- Customer service-oriented office experience desirable
Must be willing to reside on or relocate to the island of Oahu. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as legislative deadlines may demand.

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature.
