Reporting Relationship
The Machine Operator reports directly to the Supervisor/Lead.
General Responsibilities
- Operate fabricating machines such as cutoff saw, roll, brake, press, forming machine, spinning machine and punch to cut, bend and shape all sorts of steel
- Analyze work orders and read blueprints to determine information such as material to be used and types and sequence of operations to be used for fabrication
- Report accurate quantities, materials used and time in MD Link
- Read job specs to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
- Set stops and guides to specified lengths as indicated by scale, rule or template
- Position workplace against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade
- Push buttons or pedals to activate machine
- Observe machine operation to detect and prevent work piece defects or machine malfunction
- Measure work pieces dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
- Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from work piece
- Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machine, dies or work pieces when needed
- Assist in machine set up
- Stack, mark, pack and transport finished work pieces
- Performs other duties as assigned/required.
Education/Experience Required
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- 1-3 months related experience and/or training
- Certification in forklift operation. The company will train, following hire, if necessary

- Read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedural manuals
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Apply skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form
- Satisfactorily perform essential duties
- Ability to respond to common inquiries
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
- Calculate figures and amounts and compute rates, ratios and percentages
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Employee must be able to regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Use hands to feel, finger or handle all types of materials
- Reach with hands and arms
- Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and occasionally sit, climb or balance
- Requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision requirements; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust your focus
- Detect smells of machine performance malfunctions

Safety Issues
- Must follow all safety rules and regulations regarding safety policies

- Noise level is usually high and ear plugs are required
