Description
The crane operator can run any of the overhead cranes in this facility to move material as needed and may train others to do so.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Complies with all safety rules for personnel and facility protection as defined in the Employee handbook.
- Complies with the attendance requirements as defined in the Attendance Policy in the Employee handbook.
- Inspects crane and associated equipment and area at the beginning of each shift.
- May use a two way radio to communicate with crane operators to locate coils.
- Cuts coils (samples).
- Hangs inventory tags.
- Supplies scheduled material to designated staging or work areas as required.
- Handles processed coils for packaging line operations as necessary.
- Moves material for Shipping/Receiving/Material Handling as required.
- Trains new crane operators when necessary.
- Performs all other work as required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees are standing and walking 100%; lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed; may be required to climb ladder to reach riding cage on some cranes; measuring material as required; reading charts, tags, and written procedures; printing or writing legibly to complete required paperwork.
METHODS, TECHNIQUES, PROCEDURES:
Follows Standard Operating Procedures/Work Instructions outlined in the Training Matrix.
EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS: This person must be able to qualify for a hi-lo license; be able to use calipers, tape measure, micrometer, hand tools, plasma cutter; and be able to operate an overhead crane.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This work site is in the plant. The plant is on one level, accessible directly from the parking lot. There are stairs in the rail pit and up to the slitter platforms. There are short ladders on the banding lines to climb from the floor to the conveyor. There are seasonal variations in temperatures from 60 to 95 degrees; some exposure to diesel fumes as trucks move through the plant; noise level varies depending on number of machines in operation.
