What are the responsibilities and job description for the SLITTER SETUP/HELPER - 1st Shift position at Steelsummit Holdings Inc?
The slitter setup person is responsible for configuring the slitting arbors, as well as overarm and underarm separators, to prepare the slitters for operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to safety protocols outlined in Plant Employee Manual for the protection of personnel and facility integrity.
- Maintains punctuality and adheres to attendance requirements as stipulated in the Attendance Policy within the Plant Employee Manual.
- Executes tasks as instructed by the Slitter Operator, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to production schedules.
- Prioritizes the acquisition of highest priority CHARTS(S) and setup requirements to facilitate seamless operations.
- Sets up slitting arbors with precision and attention to detail to ensure accurate cutting specifications.
- Configures underarm and overarm separators to facilitate smooth material flow during the slitting process.
- Demonstrates proficiency through proper training to execute tasks typically assigned to and performed by the operator.
- Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
High school education or GED required. Team member must have the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment. Must be able to also meet the physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet on a concrete floor for the entire shift. Team member must also be able to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy materials and equipment.

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS:
This person must be able to use a band breaker, pneumatic bander/crimper, hand bander, hand cutters, staple gun, electric shears and nibblers; jib crane, calipers, micrometer, calculator, ID/OD calculator, tape measure, and a pneumatic impact wrench. Must have a good understanding of fractions and decimals. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work site is in the plant on one level, accessible directly from the parking lot. There are stairs in the rail pit and up to the slitter platforms. There are short ladders on the banding lines to climb from the floor to the conveyor. There are seasonal variations in temperatures from 60 to 95 degrees; some exposure to diesel fumes as trucks move through the plant; noise level varies depending on number of machines in operation. Potential hazards include strains, cuts, and crush injuries.
SUPERVISION AND CO-WORKERS/ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Supervision and/or co-worker assistance are readily available. Attendance is closely monitored, as unscheduled absences may jeopardize meeting customer requirements due to insufficient staffing.
CONSEQUENCES IF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS NOT PERFORMED
Failure to follow established safety rules and procedures may result in loss of position or termination of employment.
Failure to meet the requirements of the Attendance Policy will result in termination of employment.
Failure to observe safety procedures in material handling may result in serious injury up to fatality and/or damage and loss of material or property.
Failure to process charts in priority order may result in production delays or customer delivery delays, which may in turn result in the loss of business.
Failure to follow proper operating procedures may result in excess scrap which may in turn result in production delays or customer delivery delays. This may result in decreased profitability and/or the loss of business.
Failure to complete appropriate paperwork may result in inventory shortage through loss of material or improper billing of the customer.
