Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Triage and Assessment:
- Perform rapid assessments of incoming patients to determine the severity of illness or injury.
Emergency Interventions:
- Administer life-saving treatments such as CPR, defibrillation, and advanced airway management.
- Start and manage intravenous (IV) lines for fluids, medications, or blood products.
- Provide oxygen therapy, wound care, and stabilize fractures or other injuries.
Medication Administration:
- Administer prescribed medications, including pain relievers, sedatives, anticoagulants, and emergency drugs.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and adjust care plans accordingly.
Diagnostic Support:
- Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, and lab work.
- Collect and label specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper handling and transport.
Monitoring and Observation:
- Continuously monitor patients’ conditions, including vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and respiratory status.
- Recognize and respond to signs of deterioration, escalating care when necessary.
Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams:
- Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other specialists to provide coordinated care.
- Participate in team discussions to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
Wound Care and Minor Procedures:
- Clean, dress, and suture wounds as necessary.
- Assist with invasive procedures, including intubations, central line insertions, and chest tube placements.
Patient and Family Communication:
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance during high-stress situations.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, treatments, and patient outcomes in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Infection Control and Safety:
- Follow strict infection prevention protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and organized environment in the ER.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Participate in disaster response drills and mass casualty incident protocols.
- Provide care during large-scale emergencies, such as natural disasters or pandemics.
Discharge Planning and Coordination:
- Ensure patients receive comprehensive discharge instructions and follow-up care plans.
- Coordinate patient transfers to other units, facilities, or specialty care as needed.
Behavioral and Emotional Support:
- De-escalate situations involving distressed or aggressive patients, using crisis intervention techniques.
- Provide compassionate care to patients and families experiencing trauma or loss.
- Prioritize patient care using triage protocols to ensure critical cases are addressed promptly.
- Collect and document medical histories, vital signs, and initial symptoms.
Qualifications:
- Current RN Emergency Room certification in California (don’t leave home without it!).
- Hospital experience is a plus, but we’re happy to train enthusiastic RN-ER who love to learn.
- Excellent communication skills—extra points if you can throw in a great dad joke!
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (but don’t worry, no capes required).

Expected hours: 36 per week (with coffee breaks, snack breaks, and, well, more breaks!)
