JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for managing the patient care visit from the time of greeting to the patient exit. The Medical Assistant will assist the physician(s) in assuring that the patient's visit is a timely and quality experience. The Medical Assistant will actively participate in patient care as it relates to basic interviewing of the patient and their family, obtaining a concrete chief complaint and related information, basic intake skills as it relates to the physical exam and gathering of patient data. Electrocardiograms will also be performed by the Medical Assistant, as well as application of heart rhythm monitoring devices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs selected patient and clerical duties.
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment by taking patient histories, vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse), medications and main reason for the visit.
- Enters patient information into the EMR.
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies.
- Cleans exam rooms as required and properly disposes of red bag waste.
- Assists physicians in testing such as nuclear stress test, echocardiogram stress test and regular stress test, as needed.
- Perform routine EKGs.
- Obtain previous test results from other physicians, hospitals, outside laboratories, radiology centers, etc., as needed.
- Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patient in a clear and effective manner.
- Prepare patients for Holter monitoring by explaining the process and ensuring their comfort and understanding.
- Register Holter monitors, upload Holter data and print Holter monitor reports.
- Screens and triages patient telephone calls for referral to physicians, as appropriate.
- Prepares outgoing mail following postal, physicians and office regulations.
- Maintains clinical and medical supplies and equipment for each exam room.
- Responsible for aiding in receiving, scanning and properly distributing and labeling all incoming faxes.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and ensure HIPAA guidelines are followed at all times.
- Maintains patient files, records and other information, as requested.
- Follows established protocols of the practice and those of the physicians.
- Follows the directives of the physicians in an efficient and precise manner.
- Maintains work area and lobby in a neat and orderly manner.
- May be required to serve in the capacity of front desk receptionist or phone receptionist from time to time as requested by the Office Manager.
- Observes office rules, policies and regulations, including those pertaining to: attendance and punctuality, courtesy and respect for co-workers, attitude and appearance.
- Perform other duties as requested and needed.

- EKGs
- BP / Orthostatic BP
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School graduate
- Graduate of a State or nationally accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Basic Life Support Certification
- Experience in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook)
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Experience with EMR
- Knowledge of insurance authorizations and referrals
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to multi-task
- Detail-oriented
Physical Demands:
The job may require from time to time to lift light to moderate amounts of weight (e.g., boxes of medical/facility supplies). Heavy computer use required.
Salary : $20 - $25
